Effective assessment

As it is well known, different learning objectives will call for a different types of learning and different skills and competence. Assessment for online distributed learning would benefit from three types of assessments:

Flexible assessment
Peer assessment
Self assessment

Flexible Assessment

Since flexible delivery mode is focused more on student centered learning this type of assessment contributes to the engagement, contribution and dialogs.

Self assessment

As the dominant learning is the student centered, this type of assessment increases the responsibility on the learner for their own learning. Portfolio construction is supported as one mean o self assessment. This seems popular when the formative data needs to be as evidence of achievement.

Peer Assessment

Peer assessment is another component of assessment that is widely used in the environment of online distributed environment. It can promote students confidence in their ability to assess work of others and provide the opportunity to develop skills for working in a team.
